Application Process

My second application timeline:
July 29, 2014- I submitted my application.

August 7, 2014- I submitted my Health History Form.

My first application timeline:
March 5, 2012- I finally submitted my application.
March 6, 2012- I was contacted by my regional office, not my recruiter though. I was told I would be hearing from my recruiter soon to set up an interview. (This e-mail was pretty ambiguous)
March 14, 2012- I received an e-mail thanking me for my application and telling me a packet of legal documents was in the mail.
March 18, 2012- I was on Spring Break and received my packet on my return to campus. Fingerprints, legal documents, and a few signatures needed.
March 19, 2012- I mailed back the packet with all forms completed.
March 22, 2012- I was e-mailed that my legal packet was received, and minutes later I was CC’d on an email connecting me with my recruiter so set up an interview.
April 11, 2012- I interviewed in Boston with my recruiter. It took about an hour and a half. I walked out of there feeling very ambivalent. My recruiter told me to call him in two weeks (which would have been April 25) to follow up.
April 20, 2012- I received an email from my recruiter informing me that I am nominated for the Health Extension program in Sub-Saharan Africa, departing January or February of 2013! I accepted my nomination instantly.
May 8, 2012- I received my medical packet! Let the fun begin!
June 15, 2012- Medical packet submitted.
July 7, 2012- Medical packet received by PC, reflected in my Toolkit– “If the program you are nominated for is not scheduled to leave in the next 4 months you may not hear from Medical until the time of departure is closer.”

September 20, 2012- Dental clearance.

September 20, 2012- More information was requested regarding my HIV test. For privacy purposes my doctor submitted my HIV test as a Viral Screen (VS) test. Had to have a form faxed explicitly saying it was an HIV test. Had it faxed immediately.

September 25, 2012- My nurse called to request a print out of my medications use history from Rite Aid.

September 26, 2012- Submitted medications history.

September 28, 2012- Medical clearance.

October 2, 2012- Received email from Placement & Assessment Office. Asked for an updated resume & transcript. Also sent 2 pages of questions. I am waiting on resume, but submitted everything else.

October 3, 2012- Had placement interview via phone. Was told I will be departing in late January working on HIV/AIDS. Invitation to follow this week.

October 3, 2012- Submitted updated transcript.

October 3, 2012- Invited to serve in South Africa departing January 23, 2013

October 6, 2012- Declined invitation to serve.

  1. I am so glad I found your blog. I have wanted to join the Peace Corps for as long as I can remember and I am so excited/anxious to get started even though I know it will be a few years away for me. Good Luck with everything and I can't wait to read all about it!
