Sliven, Bulgaria.

We arrived in to Bulgaria past midnight on a Sunday/Monday morning and lets just say my first impression at night was much different than during the light of day. We had to get up early Monday to be at school by 7:30 am, ugh. We had to entertain seven classes, mostly by making them ask me questions.

After classes we took at bus to Byala, a small village north of the city to visit Amy, Hannah's friend that is in the Peace Corps. We took a tour of her village and the school that she teaches at, and then visited her next door neighbors, an older couple, who invited us inside for what turned into quite the Bulgarian experience. Her neighbors insisted on feeding us and they jabbered away in Bulgarian, I understood nothing, so I focused on the food.

After we arrived back in Sliven we set out to meet Hannah's Mormon friends. You can read more about Hannah and the Mormons here. We went to a really cute restaurant and had shopska-- cucumber, tomato, celery salad with syrina, a Bulgarian word for cheese, and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious.

The following day Hannah didn't have to teach until the afternoon. We beboped around city center until Hannah had to meet with the step club that she had started. They stepped and I ate the pizza Hannah brought to lure the students to attend. The kids were pretty impressive, they knew their stuff.

We had three classes to entertain, they all went pretty smoothly. We stopped for a pumpkin pastry, tikvanik, which is literally the most delicious thing ever and is so cheap, and hit up the grocery store on our way home. We spent our last night in Sliven laying low. Hannah cooked for me, as she always does. She made an amazing dinner and cinnamon monkey bread the we demolished.
